To make the best use of your creative efforts, time and money, you should enlist an experienced team leader for your recording project. Do you want to record a demo to pitch your songs? A demonstration of your voice so you can get live or recording work? A project good enough to pitch to a record label? A high quality master cd to sell? A commercially competitive, radio ready recording? No matter what kind of project you want, you need expert guidance from someone who, after closely consulting with you, can steer your team and your project in such a way that the final mix can accomplish what you need it to do.
Inexperience, unfocused wasted effort and team anarchy can destroy your musical vision, or make it much more expensive to attain. Even if you are an experienced, veteran artist, it is wise to partner with another trustable ear and second opinion. You need to separate your critical, analytical mind from your creative, performing mind. This is why many veteran artists choose to do co-productions.
WHY CHOOSE ME AS YOUR PRODUCER?
- Originality
I will ask probing questions, listen to your voice and your heart to find out where your uniqueness as an artist lies. For bigger master projects, I will push you out of your comfort zone in pre-production experimentation so that we find the right songs, genre, musicians and production values that best express the artist within you.
- Price
I will consult with you and determining the kind of project you’re interested in. We will discuss the various types of projects you could do, types of studios and engineers that would work for your needs and make a plan. I will work up a very realistic budget estimate for you, showing you what every dollar goes for. I’m not the lowest priced producer out there, and I’m not the highest. I gear my productions to more original crafting rather than “factory” tracks. I hire the best musicians and session singers in the world, and pay them appropriately, so they give you their very best creative efforts.
- Songs and Professional Co-writing
As songwriter I have written major hits including the BMI “MillionAire” awarded song “One Way Ticket (Because I Can”). I’ve written with such luminaries as Michael Stergis (writer with Crosby Stills & Nash), Dave Loggins (hall of fame legend), Louise Goffin (Carol King’s daughter), Sky Dyer (Dr. Wayne Dyer’s daughter), Jerry Foster (hall of fame legend), Ross Vannelli (Grammy award winning songwriter & producer), Karen Taylor Good, Keith Hinton, Jimmy Scott and Barbara Orbison. I have songs published by BMG, Warner Music, MCA, Chrysalis and my own Favorable Wind Songs catalogs which might be appropriate to your project.
I also often co-write with people I’m producing. In fact, I prefer producing people who write. I will also look for outside songs.
- Expert Vocal Production
Whether working with inexperienced vocalists or veteran performing and recording artists, my vocal production is known for getting lead vocal magic in the studio. I also work in this capacity with other production teams. See my page on vocal production for more information.
- Final Results
My practice is to tweak the almost-final mix until you are satisfied. The “final” results will speak for themselves.
WHEN WOULD I NOT BE A GOOD FIT FOR YOU AS YOUR PRODUCER?
- You’re looking for someone who will also pitch, market or promote your music.
Although I may give you advice about them or professional references, these services are not what I do, and my price is lower because I don’t offer them.
- You already have a record producer you like.
Awesome and congratulations on finding someone who works well with you! In that case, what I would offer to you and your production team are my support services of background vocals, vocal production and/or vocal lessons before your final vocals.

- Young pop artist Emil Bishaw. He recently had one of his cuts, “Missing Child”, which I co-wrote with Michael Black, played on Nancy Grace, with his video on the CNN website. You can hear Michael Hodges’s recording project here.
- Christian contemporary singer Christa DeJarnett’s project can be heard here. I also co-wrote two of these songs with Christa.
- Julia Loewen’s Celtic-rock album “Into The Light”, which I produced, can be found by clicking “music” and then on the album name. I co-wrote most of the album.
- I produced and co-wrote two of the songs for gospel singer Joy Jones, which can be heard here.
- I wrote music and produced cast recordings for two musicals: the contemporary musical drama and upcoming series “Runaway Home” and “We The People”, about the Revolutionary War from teenagers’ point of view.
Some of my other full productions or co-production credits include: actress/singer/songwriter Maria Standing Rock, novelist/singer/songwriter Jenni Schaefer, Christian singer/songwriter Dawn Nichols, award-winning young singer/songwriters Jordyn Mallory, Stacy Hines and Nicole Leona, country rock Colorado performer Kasie Smith, alternative rocker “Chylde” and rock singer Billy Deveroux, musicals “Runaway Home” and “We The People”. I have been recording producer for most of the 500-plus songs in my songwriting catalogs, many times singing the lead and background vocals and playing keyboards or mandolin on the tracks.

WHAT ARE MY PRODUCTION FEES?
I charge by the hour for the actual time I work with you. I do not charge for co-writing, I just take my half of the writer and publisher. I will be happy to work up an estimate for your project.
